FOR RESTORATION (i often get asked for restoration projects so here is one for those people)
MK1 Freeman circa 1962
4/5 berth Cabin Cruiser
Ford Watermota petrol Engine later Cortina type and j type gearbox to Shaft
The Freeman Mk1 was the rolls Royce of small Cabin cruisers with its clever design to allow a family of 4 for a 2 week holiday, with ample space and storage. these cruisers were mass produced followed by mk2 and F23 which continued production intil 1985
The early MK1 boats are very popular and are a classic for the future, i have seen pristine examples changing hands for over 10k however these particular boats were as new.
The going rate for a good mk1 is currently £5-7k
so my selling price of £1800.00 is bit of a bargain
This boat is in original condition however does need plenty of work and time spent on her
She had an elderly owner up until approx 4 yers ago when he bumped her into a jetty and put a hole in the starboard bow above the water line. (easy repair)
The boat was then put to dry storage where she remained until recently. the hood deteriorated and water got to the rear decks. the cushions and upholstery where removed from the boat and never returned. 3.4 years of water to the rear decks have done the usual damage.
the result is we have a sad looking boat, structuarlly good and well worth restoring. This boat is a good project
i really bourght it at the wrong time of year. i only get time to work on restoration project during the winter months. So my choice is to sell as is or keep her till next winter and fix up myself
Viewing are welcome by appointment only
Work needed
External. Complete repaint, and small damage GRP repair to starboard bow (easy fix)
new hood required
Top strake is complete but parts will need replaced in medium term
new antifoul (hull below waterline is in good order and no Osmosis or damage)
Internal
Rear deck has rotted on the starboard side (the usual place) parts required door surround floor supports and new deck boards.
both cabin doors are in poor condition internal centre floor boards have been removed at some point i would suggest new wood to refit, however some people do this to gain more headhigh internally
No upholstery at all so new set needed all round
internal roof needs repainted, all of the wood work needs cut back and revarnished, some bits may need small repairs. all of the wooden curtain surrounds are present but need refitted and varished. front facing persepx windows are marked, window rubbers all round are all brittle and i would advise changing all of them
Mechanics, the engine and gear box turn fine, electrics may needa bit of tiding up, she will need a service and may need the petrol drained and tank cleaned as boat has been standing for 3 to 4 years
so to summarise
lots and lots of sanding and painting required,
small amount of skilled woodwork required
small amount of non skilled workwood required to do
small grp damage to repair (its a flat bit and easy
more sanding, painting and varnishing to do
new hood
New upholstery cushions and covers
